Located in a valley between Mount Esquel and Mount Nahuel Pan, the town of Esquel, named after a native term which means 'spiny bush', was founded around the year 1906 with the installation of the telegraphic wire service. The founders, of Welsh origin, were followed by Italians, Chileans, Syrians and Lebanese.

Esquel, with a dizzyingly fast-growing population due to the development of access roads, has not only become the center of this Andean region (Comarca Andina), but also a powerful center of attractions that includes neighboring towns like Trevelin, Cholila, and Maitén.

La Hoya Ski Resort in Esquel has become a good alternative for winter sports, and is at the same level as the best winter resorts. The modern and bright walk alongside the Esquel stream, and the impeccable Los Alerces National Park, makes Esquel a landmark of the Andean Patagonia, promoting investments in real estate.

While exploring the city, you must visit the old Welsh meeting site, the Seion Chapel and the Mount Vestay, with tea and chocolate houses; as well as the renovated square and the Cultural Center, which will be inaugurated soon.
